Richard's Expo Experience Print
Written by Richard- Reservoir District

Richard and co canoeingOn Monday the 8th of November our expo team 1A (Irymple and Reservoir) set off on expo number 2! It was straight after Parent Visiting Weekend so I was really drained when we started! I was really excited to be canoeing again, because the first time we canoed I loved it. I knew there were going to be a lot of lowlights and highlights from the expo, but mainly highlights so I got myself pumped and ready to go for expo.

We got dropped off at the top of Mt. Raymond by Mr. Reeves, and then we had a small talk with the group about what roles we were and what our personal goals were. Soon we set off down Mt. Raymond! Unfortunately the next group had to start off where we finished, so they had to climb up Mt. Raymond instead. After a couple hours, we reached the river where our canoes were, and then we set off. Mr. Pfanner had made a canoe roster so we got to go with nearly everyone in our expo group, including both of the teachers. Apparently it was confusing to make the roster and some people didn’t go with everyone. After a couple hours we got to a paddock where we were going to set up camp. We had our daily review on the top of the hill nearby us, and it was already dark when we got there. While we had our review, I saw a shooting star! It was the first time I had ever seen one, so I was really amazed.

The second day of expo we were canoeing all day! There was no hiking throughout the day so our legs got a big rest that day. When we set off on the canoes, we were going back the way we came, but there was a different turn halfway back. The days were really hot, so we ended up having a lot of water fights in those days! Mr. Pfanner told us not to start water fights, but soon after he had started one himself!  It was really fun & refreshing to get involved in those water fights, so we constantly had them. After about 5 water fights, our canoe had a lot of water in it and we were getting closer and closer to the water! Luckily, I never capsized during the expo. A while after we reached our campsite, we set up camp and soon after that we had dinner. Luckily, it was right next to a beach so for our daily review, we went there and had a great review by the sunset.

On the last day of expo we had nearly equal hiking and canoeing, so that was pretty good. We packed up the campsite and set off on the canoes again. We got to the end of the river at about 11 am and had a group photo, which is attached to this blog. We started to hike along the beach, just like expo 1, for about 4 more km’s. We soon met up with the other team that was on expo, 1B, and we had a little chat with them. After about an hour or 2 we reached a massive sand dune that we had to climb up! It went for about 100m and it felt so tiring to go up. After we reached the top of the sand dune we hiked off back to campus and we reached our destination shortly after.
