On Friday the 15th of October 1B went surfing at Cape Conram. It was amazing! We got taught by Mel and Pete who were very experienced surfers. They went through each step one at a time and demonstrated it all very well. They first showed us how to catch a wave and then we copied them in the sand. We may have looked pretty silly lying on the sand pretending to swim but it was helpful to get the practice before we went in the water. When we all got it we went out in the cold water and practiced our new skills. All of us got it pretty quick and we were soon out of the water to learn how to stand up. Pete and Mel then demonstrated two techniques of how you can get up into the standing up position while on your board. The first one is jumping up straight away, the pro surfing way and the second way was to gradually get up step by step. First on your knees, then crouched and then standing up. I found the second option easier for my first time. After we had all practised this several times we went out into the water and tried it out. I think we all stood up for at least a second. The thrill you get when finally standing up is exhilarating. Over all it was a great day and we all can’t wait until our next surf.
